Not sure – when I look at the MAC details and click the Location tab it shows
no location history. This only occurs when an unmanaged hub/switch is attached
to a PF controlled Cisco 2960.

Even if I manually register the node, PF can’t assign the port to the correct
vlan due to no location log entry.

My only solution was to manually set the port to the correct vlan and set the
port as an uplink in PF.

Thanks,

Scott

Scott,

Thanks, this is interesting. Why would there be no location log entry? Or was
PF just confused by the fact that two different MAC addresses where associated
with one switch interface/port?

Boris.

packetfence would not change the vlan on the 2960 because there was no location
log entry.

Scott,

I am sorry, I am not sure I get it - what was it that PacketFence didn't like?

Boris.

Sorry for the delay – Yes, adding the ifindex as uplinks also corrected my

Yes, I just checked it - that is exactly what works, a comma-separated list of
ifindexes!

Thanks again for the help.

Boris.

Scott,

Awesome, thanks for your reply.

So do you specify your uplink ports just as a comma-separated list of ifindexes?

Boris.

I used to struggle with that – then Fabrice informed me that I was referencing
the port numbers wrong.

You have to use the ifindex instead of the port numbers. On Cisco IOS use
command: Show snmp mib ifmib ifindex, to display ifindex of all ports.

Once I used the ifindex then PacketFence displays in the logs “We don’t manage
Uplinks”

Thanks,

Scott

Hello listmates,

I am struggling to get PF to leave the uplink ports on my switches alone. Has
anyone done that? Do you have a switches.conf file with the list of "uplinks"?
May I see it?

Thanks.

Boris.
