You just need to have a proper communication with your switch management IP and
the PacketFence management interface.
The best way is to have your switch on the same layer 2 as the management
interface.

OK. I want to configure packetfence to work with 3 vlans. One for student one
for BYOD and one for the guest on my network. Since for this i installed
packetfence on a wmware workstation 12.for the users i used an active directory
in a cluster in a other machine. For the interfaces of my virtual machines i
put them on host only mode. So since the configuration of packetfence is
finished i want now to configure my equipements to work with it. So i want to
know in my virtual machines what mode would i apply to make my packetfence

It’s normal, pfsetvlan and snmptrapd are turned off by default.
These two processes are there to work with SNMP traps.
