Thanks Louis, I should have mentioned I'm also using Suricata on SecurityOnion 
rather than Snort (per recommendation from Fabrice Durand at Inverse). It works 
well for us.

Also, we actually recommend you give Suricata a try instead of snort these days.

It's compatible with the existing snort rules and performs much better.
