I don't think, that a remote control uses SIR or IrDA.
Maybe you have to directly control the IR-LED and turn it on and off
with the specific parameters.
To see what signals your remote control has, use a cable from the
remote-led and connect it to a clinch-connector and plug it in the
micro-input of a sound-card. Then sample with 44khz.
This is a cheap, but lousy way to save the money for a oscilloscope ;-)
Then you can see if it's sir or anything else known ...
