i think this discussion has gone a bit too far.. so we
all use different development environments.. fine.

if person X pays $360.00 US for CW, and person Y pays
nothing for gcc, and person Z pays XXX for Jump or
  whatever.. so what?

  your choice..

i use gcc because it suits my needs.

who really matters here? you or everyone else? no-one
is going to convince me to pay money for a program that
looks like a Mac.. runs like a dog.. and does not
  meet my requirements.

i am happy with gcc.. hence i use it.

oh boy.. i knew this one would come up.

  emacs?

lets run an operating system in its own right. i know some
people love emacs.. and i dont care if they use it.

but... i use gcc.. and i use 'vi'.

why? because i spent 4 years of my life learning it.. and
now i know it.. i know how powerfull it is.. :))

just remember.. in the old days.. everyone had to use
vi in-order to get emacs compiled.

lets drop this conversation.. i think everyones point
of view is out there (even mine).. :))

lets get onto talking about writing some real programs.
  :))

  cheers.
