GCC has absolutely nothing to do with what you're seeing. From the
Notes.txt file:

Are certain Debug Options such as "Report Memory Leaks" not available to
GCC
users? I use GCC and I don't get the whole array of debug options listed
in
the supporting pdf. I'm using 2.1d26.
