I created the debug color scheme to fill two needs:
1) have every color be different, so we could clearly see when things
were drawn in the 'wrong' color.
2) make sure that absolutely no one would mistakenly think that was the
'real' color scheme and criticize the choice of colors.
It worked very well.
The only real mistake I made was choosing white for the field background
color and black for the text foreground color. I should have made sure
that none of the colors had index values of 00 or FF, to help find more
transfer mode problems. (e.g. we didn't notice that the field text
underlines were drawn wrong until late in the game, because they were
always drawn on a white (00) background over black (FF) text descenders.)
I could also have paid more attention to the actual index values of the
various elements, to ensure that combinations under weird transfer modes
didn't result in no-ops.
Oh well, live and learn... possibly just randomizing the colors each time
the device was reset would have accomplished the same goals! :-)
