When you say you compiled a Windows program with "GCC", do you mean
DJGPP?  If so, there's a description of the NT long-filename problem in
the DJGPP FAQ at
http://www.delorie.com/djgpp/v2faq/faq006.html#WindowsNT.  It has a link
to an alpha LFN driver, but I haven't tried it.
