database type?

Please show me where I can find some info about the database type. For
example, what is the type of Favorites or E-book or Hack? What kind of
database has the type such as "sdio","sdrv", "sxql", "dflt", etc. Is that
something we can name with 4 characters (not 4 lower case charecters, as I
remember, reserved for Palm only?)
