You can definitely do it and you don't need to muck with serial ports to
pull it off. There was a complete description of how to do it posted to
this forum a couple of weeks ago and I'm sure it can be retrieved from the
archives. If I can find it, I'll send it directly to you.

Someone on another discussion group asked this question:

                >
                >How do I configure the Palm OS 3.3 / POSE 3 running on my
                >(single serial port) laptop perform a network based HotSync
to
                >the HotSync mgr running on the laptop?
                >
                >I implied that this is possible from the Properties setting

                >of "Redirect NetLib calls to host TCP/IP"
                >

                To which I replied:

                >I don't think this is possible. A missing piece is the
"connection".
                >On the hotsync screen you can select from two connections:
"direct serial"
                >or "IR to PC/Handheld". But each connection is configured
in the
                Prefs/Network
                >applet(run "Prefs", select "Network" as the category).
                >
                >While you can configure a number of services to the
connection (of which
                there
                >are more than just the two presented on the hotsync
screen), none of these
                services
                >is anything like "direct IP". (All of this info, btw, is
based on OS 3.3
                ... I haven't
                >checked into OS 3.5 yet).
                >
                >All in all, I think we're just short of being able to do
what you suggest.
                The
                >only way to get Pose to hotsync that I know of is w/ two
serial ports and a
                null
                >modem cable.

I would like the Palm OS and POSE people's opinion on this.
Is my analysis
essentially correct? Would it be possible to add a "direct
IP" service to
the network choices in the future? I have heard something
about an ethernet
cradle, which would imply a direct IP sync capability ...
but I don't see
how to configure a Palm device to use it.
