On which end?
Normally, just asking the socket what it's IP address is would be sufficient.
The address lives in the modem (AFAIK), or is assigned a persistent
value when the modem registers, i.e. unless something wierd happens
you can hardcode the ip address in the network preferences panel and
it will still work. (you can get the original from the minstrel
settings screen).
