No, but on all devices that -have- a backlight, the backlight has
a state (either on or off).  And there -is- an API that allows you
to determine whether a backlight is present.

So?  Leave that to the programmer to determine.  The
current API re. the backlight is incomplete.  You can
determine presence.  You can set the state.  You can
not determine the state.  2 out of 3 ain't right.  Better
off leaving the backlight OUT of the API if you aren't
going to do it right.
