I, too, had that problem and could not for the life of me figure out why.  I
had called my companies tech support people, thinking a network logon script
had caused the problem.  They could not figure out the problem either.
After three days of pulling my hair out and un-installing and re-installing
palm software and any other software I thought I had installed, I was
looking through the Palm support section and saw the section about soft
resetting.  For the heck of it and because I couldn't think of anything else
I did a soft reset and wouldn't you know it, sync went just fine.  So, try a
soft reset and see if that does the trick.
