Hmm, not a very promising start. While you have been "away", John has been
here responding patiently and helpfully to problems. Apart from the
potential for future unexplained absences of support, I can't help getting
an
impression from your messages that you are a tiny bit less likely to show
the same willingness to help or tolerance of others' inexperience.

For my part, the essential additional functionality that he has added is the
ability to build programs larger than 32K as a single executable. This
works fine, as does the rest of the package, to the extent that I have just
pulled 0.5 off my system and switched to 2.0 as the production environment.

Wrong. The problem was caused by a bug in the FP library cast functions,
caused by a missing patch. It was corrected within a few days of being
reported.
While your link-time approach is a little more elegant (if and when it
becomes available) that isn't really the top priority for me - I'm more
interested in getting a job done. Nevertheless, I wish you well with your
endeavours. Recommendations for success in this and other aspects of life:
o Focus on what you can do for the users of your tools rather than making
disparaging and inaccurate comments about others' efforts
o Get something out on the street before blowing your own trumpet in quite
such an extravagant way
