Yes, and I believe there is still a bug in the 3.5 OS which makes a (true)
hack not get its own proper prefs get deleted when the user does a standard
delete. This would be very nice if Palm would fix this in a future release,
because it causes all sorts of problems, and hack-writers are open bait
for pref police (but not our fault!)
Another technique for what you want to do that would save memory is to
simply save your prefs as a resource in your own programs' resource code
database itself. No muss, no fuss. Except you can't run it from ROM,
of course ;-(
