You could do a local beam to create an event, but you'll have to produce a
string containing the event in vCalendar format - not trivial. It will
insulate you from changes in the Data Book though. The user experience may
be less than ideal. First there will be a progress dialog that will appear
briefly. Second, the user will be taken to the Date Book to view the new
event. This may not be appropriate for your application.

This is how most people solve this kind of problem today. We're aware that
this isn't an ideal solution.
