This is why I thought it was good to get topics like this out there.
I consider myself a very efficient programmer (I pride myself on making
full scale Windows Apps that are under 128K), but even my brain has
atrophied in the 10 years since I programmed on this scale. Now I have
to remember how I used to do things.
The roughest thing at first was dealing with no instruction cache again
after spending 3 years doing algorithmic research for fast caching
algorithms... :)
So I figure, a few old fashioned reminders are good.
I still just can't get over how clever it was of Palm to come up with a
proprietary memory architecture. Can you IMAGINE how bloated apps would
be if people could just code like "normal" and didn't have to seriously
think about optimizing things? You'd need a 200 MHz RISC processor and
32 meg RAM just to do anything at all. :)
