Actually, the Palm Install doesn't seem to have all the information it
needs.
Occasionally, I've had COLOSSAL disasters, because on the install tool I
accidentally selected a different user than the Palm I was actually
syncing. At no part of the install did it verify that it was installing
to a Palm with a different user name than I selected, with the result
that after a painful hour of slow syncing (cancel didn't work), my Palm
IIIxe was completely filled up with all my color OS 3.5 programs. :(
I spent the next 20 minutes deleting all the files one at a time...
Maybe this is a feature alm could add to future versions of the Install
tool.
