You are opening up a can of worms with this one 8^)

But before you go too much further ask yourself a couple of questions.

1. Do you need wireless development ?
2. Do you need colour ?
3. Do you need a "live" unit for testing, and do most of your work on POSE
(emulator) ?
4. Do you need latest and greatest, or largest installed user base?
5. Is bar-coding an option?
6. Future hardware development?
7. CF interfaces?

I personally have two units.
The first is a Handspring Visor Deluxe (also my "daily driver")
... Advantages : 16MB of memory (with 8Mb Expansion Springboard) ; USB
cradle (good for syncing).
... Disadvantages : Lack of Flash Memory ROM support for OS upgrades (to
some people this is a problem, I don't really care) ; USB cradle (no good
for debugging - I switch to a serial cradle for "tethered debugging").
My second unit is a Palm VII
... Advantages : Wireless (I develop "native" (non-PQA code) apps for
wireless)
... Disadvantages : 2Mb of memory. Not really an issue for me since this is
pretty much a pure development machine for me and rarely goes out and about
with me.

Basically it comes down to what it is you want. If it were me, I would
recommend a Visor for testing on a live machine. Do not come to rely on
things like "ROM" id for identifying unit, because not all machines have
them. A Visor will give you what is basically the lowest common denominator
for development - a Palm OS 3.0 ROM. Then for everything else, enrol online
in the Palm developers area at oasis.palm.com and access the downloadable
ROM file and emulate the other machines you want to test with using POSE.

But, you did say "games" in your message. Perhaps you should look at the
Palm IIIc or the Visor Prism, but remember that you will appeal to a far
bigger market if you support grey scale as well.

Regards,
CSE
