Pleased to announce "Pirate", a very fast search utility for Palm, based on search engines indexing and retrieval technology. You can get this tool for a free trial in http://www.alphaworks.ibm.com/ , look for "Pirate Search for Palm" at that page. Pirate Search for Palm is a fast full-text search application for the Palm OS platform. It offers all the features of state-of-the-art search engines in spite of the limited capacities of the Palm platform. As long as a text collection can be stored on the Palm, Pirate Search for Palm can search it with top effectiveness (quality of results) and efficiency (fast resposne time, low space overhead). Pirate Search for Palm is made of three main components: + Desktop indexing engine + Palm device query-and-viewer utility, and + Palm conduit. The desktop indexing engine processes a set of documents, creates a searchable index, and saves both index and data to a Palm database (PDB). Implemented in Java. The Palm device utility has a friendly user interface, for selecting an indexed collection, submitting a query, and browsing the results. It maintains ranking algorithms for selecting the best documents. Implemented in C. The Palm conduit component runs at synchronization time. It can be configured to index existing palm databases, like the Memos database. Implemented in Java.
