So, I am confused about the text manager. Each PalmOS device supports
its localized character encoding. But how do you force a PalmOS
device which supports a certain character encoding to use another??

Specifically, I use this function to grab text out of a record, and
put it into a field

If I dig into the pdb file, the record seems to have the correct
character. But, when it displays in the filed, it does not.

static void setText(FieldPtr field, Char* text)
{

        MemHandle       hfield = FldGetTextHandle(field);
        Char*           pfield;

        if(hfield != NULL)
        {
                MemHandleResize(hfield, StrLen(text) + 1);
        }else{
                hfield = MemHandleNew(StrLen(text) +1);
        }

        pfield = MemHandleLock(hfield);
        StrCopy(pfield, text);
        MemHandleUnlock(hfield);

        FldSetTextHandle(field, hfield);
        FldDrawField(field);

        return;
}
