First, the popSelect event comes _after_ the user taps an item in a popped
up list. The initial tap on the trigger sends a ctlSelect event.
Second, you probably don't need any code for this. If the list and trigger
are built in Constructor/PilRC, then the OS will pop up the list
automatically when the user taps the trigger, and then update the trigger
text afterwards.
