Perhaps you'd like to start with something like Falch.net's
DeveloperStudio (http://www.falch.net). It's built entirely on the
GCC/Prc-Tools chain, but gives you the ease of a full IDE (including
good source-level debugging and graphical resource editing). It'll
generate everything you need automatically (makefile, etc...), but
doesn't generate anything proprietary, so if you'd like to eventually
get rid of the IDE middleman, it should be easy.

Hi!
I've been developing programs on the Codewarrior platform for quite some
time now and I would like to move on to using the free PRC-tools to do
my
development. As I'm a complete newbie in prc-tools, and I've no prior
experience of Unix or Linux, I hope someone can point me in the right
direction on how I can get started. My greatest concern would be with
how to
create UI objects (with Codewarrior, using Constructor was a straight
forward affair), and how to compile programs (makefile drives me nuts!).
Also, I'm wondering how a source-level debugger could be used as it is
like
in Codewarrior.
