The main event loop checks for this key event before doing any of the
sys*event() calls

Yes, that makes the "phantom click" go away, but it also seems to cause
SysHandleEvent to absorb the key event (by returning true). Did you deal
with this by handling the key event in your main event loop before passing
it to SysHandleEvent?
