This bit of authentication I'm trying to do is initiated from the GSM operator 
so the IMSI will be known at any time. However, it looks like what I'm trying 
to do isn't going to work the way I wanted it to.

Yeah it looks like the GSM module is so hidden from the Palm functionality that 
its gonna be very difficult to get any useful information from it.
