Totally Mac OS hangover. When the tools were originally created, they reused many of the existing tools done for Mac 68K development. This worked OK in the context of Mac OS and its file system, but didn't translate well to Windows.


RESOURCE.FRK is a convention from Apple's original PC floppy disk read/write software, and it got reused in the Altura porting library that was used to get much of this code hosted on the PC.

This was one of the main reasons I did the Palm OS 68K linker in V9; it allows a user to ditch the entire Mac OS resource-based tool chain if desired.
