OK - I fixed the problem by renaming by bitmap family that had ID 3000 and 3001 to 4000 and 4001.
This still doesn't explain the problem to me satisfactorily. Since no other bitmap family was using ID 3000/3001???
Remember that the "rsrc" resources don't directly map to what's in the PRC file. For example, a bitmap family is a collection of PICT resources and a Tbmf resource, but in the PRC file, it's all combined into a single Tbmp resource.
Yet another reason to avoid Constructor and PalmRez -- it adds too much abstraction to your resources.
