Thank you for your reply Ben.  The alarm app is DiddleBug.  It is open 
source so you have given me something to go on.  I will check to see if 
it is writing to global variables.

I just checked and I find that version 2.50 (the most recent version 
that I was able to find the source for) does not have this problem and 
neither does version 2.60.  It is only beta version 2.90.b.3 that has 
the problem.  I have contacted the most recent author, so hopefully it 
will be fixed.
