I appreciate your comments.  I have no desktop app. to "port".  There are
few good solutions to what I am trying to do.

1.  Use a pen and a pad of paper, then re-enter data later.
2.  Use a PDA, and deal with Graffiti.
3.  Use a tablet computer, and deal with a larger device that is less
portable and more likely to suffer damage in a harsh environment.  (A tablet
PC will also cost more to replace if damaged.)

Fundamentally, I have decided to approach this application as a learning
tool until I see how practical it is in terms of the final screen design.
