Just got the first spar up, and picked up some earring loops from the craft store to use as shackles, metal rings, etc for the rigging. the stern of the boat is missing a rail, but using the same technique for making the the rat line, I made a nice rail. using a drip of CA glue on the crossings, the cotton thread whisked the Ca Glue down the entire structure giving me a for all practical purposes a plastic railing. I painted it aluminum so it would look less thread like.

First off, it was too small. the biggest I could reasonablme make it using 8.5x11 paper was 150%, but that seems to be a nice size, From stem to stern it is now some 50cm (20") long. A good shelf model size. The masts and spars were all flat and/or once sided, so they needed to be upgraded. The masts are simply rolled computer paper, and the spars are a combination of bamboo skewers, toothpicks, and the chopsticks from the food court at Wegmans. While at the dollar store, a simple necklace made for some nice scale chain too. The other big issue on the cutty sark was the lack of rigging. Tried and true sewing thread, and #10 crochet thread completes the upgrade for now. Oh. and also turning the flag the correct direction :) http://jleslie48.com/jl/ 120929_cutty_sark02_ bearbirdhouse/cs2264.jpg http://jleslie48.com/jl/ 120929_cutty_sark02_ bearbirdhouse/cs2264.jpg http://jleslie48.com/jl/ 120929_cutty_sark02_ bearbirdhouse/cs2264a.jpg -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Papermodels II" group.
