I don't know what the problem was, but I can't download the pdf's at home. I can download them at work but I'm on a seriously secure network and if I download a dozen pdfs I'll get a call from security. I couldn't download them on my tablet, mac, pc.
BUT if I turned off wi-fi I could download them to my phone. Next hurdle: my phone doesn't allow me to copy files to my computer. It's a "feature," I suppose. I found a workaround and now I think I have the whole set. The model looks beautiful.
