several years back when we hosted an IPMS Regional, there was only one other
paper model entry aside from mine. Takes time, Bob, and unfortunately; many of
the younger generation have no patience for it, let alone plastic...

Howdy Folks,
Here in Southern California the "Paper Modelers Conspiracy" a group of active
paper modelershas been invading the local "plastic" modeling society for a
number of years; so much so that theInternational Plastic Modelers Society
Orange California Chapter has opened a Paper Model categoryin their well known
and attended annual OrangeCon competition. The IPMSOC monthly meetings always
help us arouse paper modeling interest among the members and visitors.
The OrangeCon competition is well attended by modelers who live great distances
from Southern California.Within the paper category one may expect to see the
works by master modelers such as David Okamura and Jim Nunn.
The attached snap shots of my first and second place winning trophies this
year should be proudly displayed however,I do so greatly disappointed. Why?
I entered three paper models with the thought of helping the total number of
paper model entries shown on the display table. Throughout the day the paper
model category had only three models in competition...all mine. I kept
thinking please, let there be more. David and Jim were there but they were
unable to provide any competition models this year due to life demands pulling
them away from modeling.
At the end of the day the paper model competition judges announced that I had
won first and second place trophies. IPMS rules do not allow a "sweep" one,
two , and three. So therefore someone could have just cut out a paper doll
entered it and won third place!
At least my paper efforts did attract interest from modelers along with their
families and visitors. Perhaps we may have won over a few.
There is always next year. Let's get the word out and increase our paper model
showing.
Thanks,
Bob Penikas
