I see. I wrote an article on the "censor" in one of
the 35 volumes of the New Grove's Dictionary of Art
(Macmillan, 1995) that briefly sketches incense
burning as a fumigatory. I know I included references
to ancient Rome but cannot recall if I cited anything
from Egypt.
