Well, I'd rather say it's expected with the current version of PAR.
If you think of what it's effectively doing (partially unzipping
a zip archive) it is not so good (but there's no way of telling
the unzipping time from the following Perl startup time
which a "normal" (non-PAR) version would also have.

sometimes we just want an executable, size does not matter...

Besides, are there any performance gain/drawback when using the
compiled version of program?
