You can instantiate the vtkExtractEdges filter and connect it to shallow copy of your input (don't directly connect the input to avoid nasty pipleine update issues) and then call Update() on the vtkExtractEdges to make it execute. Then you can shallow copy vtkExtractEdges' output to your own or further processes it.
