Hey Harald,

Well, I'm glad you found a mode that works for you, but I just tried 64-bit 
Ubuntu 9.10 and 32-bit Windows 7 and in both of them I can load the (corrected) 
vtk files, apply the Group Datasets filter, save them as ascii-encoded .vtm 
files and the load them back in. So, if you find you need to use the ascii mode 
we'll have to do some more detective work to figure out why it's not working on 
your system.
