Seems like are missing the rest of the git submodules, Thirdparty/protobuf, Qt/Testing, and Utilities/VisItBridge.
The best thing to is to ask git to fetch all of them (including VTK) for you like so: git clone --recursive git://paraview.org/ParaView.git David E DeMarle Kitware, Inc.
