Hi Adam, I just wanted to let you know that the gui name that's shown in the GUI when doing a live connection is now fixed in ParaView master. It will be in the upcoming 5.0 release.
Please let me know when you have your plugin for the "continue to the next time step" available and we'll look into merging that into ParaView master.
