Hi all,
yesterday I've started a blog series and challenge [1] aiming to attract
more Perl 6 contributors. I try to do this by presenting "low hanging
fruit" problems that newcomers can solve without deep guts or ompiler
knowledge.
The first challenge [2] was pretty successful: it got solved/done on the
first day, and I got lots of positive feedback.
I want to invite the parrot folks to also come up with such tasks, and
depending on how many you can come up with either participate in the
Perl 6 effort, or maybe start a parallel parrot track.
My criteria for such tasks are:
* the result should be something useful
* it should be doable by a motivated newcomer in 30min to 2 hours or so
* enough of the current developers should be able to help with it if
needed, and should be able to answer questions related to the task
* try not to be scary :-)
I know that most tasks that need doing don't meet these criteria, but we
managed to find a few nonetheless. So please, come up with ideas, or
just keep it in the back of your mind, and remember this email when you
think "I could use a helper for $task".
Current (Perl 6) ideas are collected in the pugs repo at
http://svn.pugscode.org/pugs/misc/helpnow/README
Cheers,
Moritz
