I think you misunderstood Kevin. he was bikeshedding the name of the environment variable, not its existence. and I agree, "PASSWORD_STORE_LENGTH" is a fine name, "PASSWORD_STORE_DEFAULT_LENGTH" is needlessly cumbersome.
