You can put whatever you want in there. If gpg's -r option can
recognize it, so can pass.

zx2c4@thinkpad ~ $ cat .password-store/.gpg-id
ZX2C4 Pass Store

As for collisions, short IDs aren't a problem in this specific
instance so long as you don't import colliding IDs into your gpg
keyring. Of course there are other reasons for disliking the
collisions found in short IDs, though.
