I think that if people on this list should have the capability to
protect themselves even if someone were to slip in a gimmicked PDF.
If you're into security and don't have an environment set up that
allows you a way to examine and open incoming files in a safe way, you
deserve what you get :)

We shouldn't have to second-guess our file format choices based on
perceived safety of the format (especially in this kind of
environment).  PDF is a fine choice for moving documents between many
and varied OS's, and you're right to stick by that decision.  If folks
are suspicious, they should already have their own measures in place.
