I think that if people on this list should have the capability to protect themselves even if someone were to slip in a gimmicked PDF. If you're into security and don't have an environment set up that allows you a way to examine and open incoming files in a safe way, you deserve what you get :) We shouldn't have to second-guess our file format choices based on perceived safety of the format (especially in this kind of environment). PDF is a fine choice for moving documents between many and varied OS's, and you're right to stick by that decision.
