Subject: Invitation Clean and Sustainable Production discussion group

Dear colleagues and friends,

we would like to invite you to join this discussion group on CLEAN AND
SUSTAINABLE PRODUCTION!

This is an initiative of the Austrian Ministry of Education, Science and
Culture in the framework of the ASEM process. On the occasion of the "ASEM
Science and Technology Ministers Conference" in Beijing, in presence of
ministers of science and technology from 10 Asian and 15 European countries
as well as representatives of the European Commission, Austria agreed to
establish a "FOCAL POINT" in order to foster the scientific exchange between
the European Community and Asia and in order to promote initiatives
connected with sustainability, environmental research and environmental
technologies with special emphasis on "Cleaner production Technologies".

This discussion list is one of the activities initiated (for more
information see <http://www.asem-focalpoint-cp.org/>
http://www.asem-focalpoint-cp.org . It is the intention of this discussion
list actively to exchange information on Clean and Sustainable Production
and to contribute to the mutual flow of knowhow and communication between
the two continents. We will concentrate on the exchange of information
between practitioners, scientists and business people. The real performance
of the activity will mainly depend on YOU and YOUR input. We will try to
stimulate the discussion as much as possible and we will try not to leave
too many questions open.

We have chosen YOU as one of the partners in this group since we know that
you are active in Cleaner Production and/or Sustainable Economic
Development. Nevertheless, if you don't want to be on this mailing list,
just press the REPLY button and type UNSUBSCRIBE.

But we hope you will stay with us!

Please let us also know if there is someone else who might be interested in
participating in this network and send us her/his data.

the interface of science and business practice. JOINTS sets its focus on
three research and action fields of sustainable development: sustainable
techniques, renewable raw materials and sustainable systems.

JOINTS' scientific work comprises :

Process analysis and evaluation of the technologies used concerning resource
utilisation, waste and emission prevention and avoidable environmental
costs; Feasibility studies and assessment of saving potentials for process
modifications and new plants concerning the requirements of a sustainable
economic development; Process modifications for improved resource and energy
efficiency, closing of cycles within the plant, use of renewable raw
materials; Information and training in the field of sustainable techniques
integrated into the production process.

Feasibility studies for the utilisation of plant substances in the field of
industrial processing; Development of production processes for the
integrated use of plants; Research and development focusing on new
possibilities of plant substance utilisation

Development of application-oriented strategies and methods for the

Austria SEER III: Sustainability, Democracy and Locality: Community Identity
in the Sustainability Transition, financed by DGXII; DG VIII financed rural
development and resource management projects in Africa; DG III funded ENEBP
(European Network on Environmental Best Practices), DG XII funded INNET
(Innovation and Networks in Industry) and the EUREKA research project
PREPARE (Preventive Environmental Protection Approaches in Europe).

Hoping for a fruitful activity
