tim your completely correct. because you are dealing with an analogue signal, 
it makes absolutley no difference whether your plugging a lead into your sound 
card or connecting a device directly into your computer.

noise from tape decks usually comes from a number of different sources. it can 
be something as simple as dirty heads in the machine to having to many cables 
touching each other which can cause a low hum or rumble noise.

the only thing that i can see that this device may bring is that you don't have 
to keep moving cables and tape decks around, but surely it would be a lot 
cheaper to purchase a reasonable tape deck, plug it permanently into your sound 
card and leave it in the one spot.
