Hi.

The main advantages of MP3 over Vorbis are the same advantages that windows
has over linux - there are a minority of vorbis users and therefore tools
are limited.

With MP3 you'd find it difficult to find a player that doesn't support that
format these days including a large variation of bit rates and variable rate
encoding. Also with MP3, you'll find an array of tools for normalising,
editing and burning without having to hunt down and probably pay for plug
ins and the like to support vorbis.

I don't know of any tools that will allow you to change the volume of a
batch of vorbis files without first having to convert them to WAV files and
then convert back?

I think an MP3 file coded at a high bit rate with a good encoder like lame
will match the vorbis file for sound quality. Sure, the vorbis file will
take up less disc space but if you've got plenty of disc space this should
be a minor consideration.
