Don't check your line in volume, check your microphone volume! If you do not
see the microphone option, go to volume control, hit alt, go to properties,
it should be the first menu item. Hit enter. Next, you will find two radio
buttons. The first one says, "Adjust volume for playback." The second one
says,, "Adjust volume for recording." Make sure the "Adjust volume for
playback." radio button is selected, then hit tab. make sure that the box
that says microphone is checked. It might be a good idea to also go to the
adjust volume for recording radio button and check the microphone box there
too. Next, go to each of the radio buttons in turn, and tab through until
you get to microphone. Make sure the volume is set to 100 percent in both
the recording and playback options. It might also be a good idea to go to
that properties dialog and look for a box that says, "Show advanced
controls." Check that box. Then, tab back to the microphone volume, tab past
the mute check box, then you will land on advanced button. Hit space. There
should be a check box in this dialog that says, "Microphone boost." Make
sure this box is checked.

Hope I could help...
