Hi Folks Just thought people might be interested in a new mp3 player I've just got hold of. It's made by CNMemory and they just call it an mp3 player - no special name.
It's about the size of a largish cigarette lighter and is done in three types, 256, 512 and 1gb storage capacity. I've got the 1gb one. so what is it. Effectively it's a pen drive. It plugs into the computer via a usb cable and looks to the computer just like any other drive. Obviously working like that you can in fact store data on it, but it also has its own built-in player which can handle mp3, wma .wav and its own format - I think - act. The act format is used for dictation, as it also has a simple built-in recorder which records in the .act format at a mere 8 khz and sounds quite honestly awful. However, it can also record in .wma and .wav, the latter at 44.1 khz. The only thing, however, is that it will only record from its built-in microphone but nevertheless, for, say recording a small meeting it would be absolutely fine and at 44.1 khz you'd probably get about 2 hours' worth of recording on the 1 gb flash memory. The mp3 player itself can handle bitrates from 32 to 320 and is reasonably blind friendly in that once you've switched it on, you hold down the play button for about 5 seconds and you're into the play mode. You can then, using a little joy-stick control, move through the files and by pressing the play button again it starts playing. You can also, press the play button first then move through the files and it will start playing each one, so you can get an idea where you are. I've only had it a day so far so don't know if there's a way of fast forwarding or rewinding through a file - I've a feeling not, though, if you turn off the player, it'll start where it left off when you turn it back on again and go into play mode. The player itself is very compact with the bottom plastic section coming away to reveal the usb port. The only real drawback with it are the other menus. It does have features like, 7 different graphic equalisations, shuffle mode, and the ability to update the firmware and flash memory, but these are all within sub-menus. You get to these menus with the joystick control, by pressing it in, then moving up and down through them and I suppose once you got the order of them, it would in fact be quite easy to use as they are large definite movements. There seems plenty of kick in the amplifier and it comes with a reasonable set of those ear bud phones. All in all for mp3 on the move it's really good. The problem I may well have is losing the thing, it's so small. I'll hopefully be doing a review of it for main menu. More details can be seen at www.cnmemory.com Chrissie Oh yes, you can get a version with a built-in fm radio. _______________________________________________ PC-Audio List Help, Guidelines, Archives and more... http://www.pc-audio.org To unsubscribe from this list, send a blank email to: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
