Larry,

Place one of the following lines in the target field of the propeties
dialogue of a Windows shortcut, substituting the URL of the stream you want
to hear for the one I give, and choosing the appropriate player, of course.
Then, just click on the shortcut. Good luck. - Dana

Dana, can you please tell me how to create the kind of shortcut that you've
mentioned here?

Thanks in advance,

Larry

Some people claim to have a hack that allows Winamp to play WMA streams.
But, personally, I have never been able to get it to work reliably.

But, when it comes to streams, I don't really care much which player gets
used. I just create my own windows shortcut pointing to the required player,
and giving the desired URL as its argument. That way, I hardly ever need to
deal with the player's own user interface. But I rip all my CDs to my hard
drive, and, when using a player as a jukebox, I find Winamp's user interface
much more accessible and convenient than either WMP, Realplayer, or ITunes.

I agree with you there. When playing media from my own hard drive I use
Winamp too. However I've never encountered a WMA or ASX stream that was
playable in Winamp. And since .asx is the format of choice of many streaming
media services, I actually use Windows Media quite a lot. There is also the
fact that Winamp has grown tremendously over the years, taking up much more
drive space than it once did.

One related question. Do all earlier versions of Winamp carry the security
risk, or is that restricted to 5.12?

Winamp is still my preferred player. I use WMP only when a stream is
available only in either Winnows Media or Real Audio Formats. but, for
playing media from my own hard drive, nothing beats Winamp.
