Hi Nick, First of all, thanks for the prompt reply! Secondly I must apologize for guessing about the Media Player version being 8. In fact I have version 10...I knew it was the most current version, but couldn't recall the specific number.
Anyway, I was surprised to find the rip option (on this computer) in the menu that appeared upon insertion of my CD. Don't know how I over looked that before. I will have to check the other computer to make sure, but don't think the same option is given on my other system. Just this afternoon tried inserting the CD before loading Media Player, and the rip option wasn't given in that menu. Hmmm. I had 3 options, play the CD, explore the CD, and take no action. I'll certainly give your steps for manually ripping the CD a try no matter what options are given as they seem clear and easy to follow. Now for the issue of most importance to me at this point. Should I be able to use JAWS while a rip/burn is in process? If so, it seems I have changed some setting that disagrees with JFW. When trying to use JFW during a rip/burn, JAWS speaks horribly slow and jerky. Could I have chose a wrong setting? Does it matter what format, speed, etc. that is used? I really think something is not right, because this only started happening after I changed settings in Media Player. When I have burned music via iTunes, JFW has worked fine. Perhaps (out of curiosity) I should try burning/ripping via iTunes again to see how JFW reacts. Again thanks for your help. Subject: Re: Media Player: Ripping/Burning Hi Katrina, First, you'll need to upgrade your media player to the latest version which is 10.0 Once you have that, you can follow these instructions for ripping cd's with it. Ripping a cd to your hard drive using the windows media player Perhaps the easiest way to do this is to insert the cd into the hard drive. A dialog box will then come up and prompt you to take an action. These will range from exploring the files on the cd with the windows explorer, to burning a cd with your preferred rom burning program to ripping the cd with the windows media player or simply to take no action. Once you've chosen the rip action press enter and the cd will rip to the following folder: c:\documents and settings\my documents\my music location. If you choose to take no action and want to perform the rip manually, select the windows media player application, then tab to the firsst of the rip music buttons and press space to activate it. From this point, hit tab about 9 times to access the second rip music button and hit space on that. The tracks will be ripped to the folder named above. To perform a selective rip, once you tab to the second of the rip buttons, hit the tab key once more and you will be in the tracks listbox. By default you are at the top of it and the tracks appear in a vertical order so the down arrow moves you to each corresponding track. all of the tracks are checked by default at first. Simply uncheck the tracks you don't want to rip by hitting the down arrow and spacebar then shift-tab once to the rip button and press space on it and the selected tracks will be ripped into the my music folder. Hopefully this explanation makes sense. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Kat" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "'PC audio discussion list.
