Steve, I don't know what the M-audio converters look like. I plan to buy one some day from Minidisko. the thing cost $49.00. it actually converts the optical signal to SPDIF. I think what your adapter is used for is to make the toslink cable compatible with portable minidisk recorders that use digital optical jacks.
